The Rabies Rally: A Thrilling Adventure Awaits

Embark on an extraordinary adventure and make a meaningful difference in the fight against rabies.

What is the Rabies Rally?

The annual Rabies Rally is a fundraising challenge supporting Mission Rabies projects around the world. This exhilarating team-building adventure, which launched in 2023, is dedicated to raising crucial funds in the fight against rabies. The event is spread across four days, with two full days dedicated to our tuk tuk challenge, where teams make their way along a mystery route, reaching various checkpoints in the tuk tuks, and scanning QR codes along the way to find the next location. There is also fun-filled additional challenges, amazing stop-off locations, delicious food, and, of course, fantastic discussions about the mission to eliminate rabies.

This thrilling challenge is happening again this year, from the 10th to the 13th of September 2024. Join us and sign up your team for this epic journey.

Why are tuk tuks involved?

The term 'tuk tuk' is used to describe a three-wheeled motorised vehicle that are popular in Southeast Asia. These vibrant machines are more than just a mode of transport; they are a cultural experience on wheels. These vehicles are incredibly useful for our vaccination drives around the world, allowing our teams of vets and volunteers to get around busy cities, as they are small and nimble. Our teams use tuk tuks to raise awareness of our vaccination drives and the threat of rabies with messages on the back. Our fabulous fleet of tuk tuks is currently being prepared for the 2024 event and we can't wait to see them back out on the open road in September!

Why is this fundraising event in Cornwall?

Cornwall is a beautiful and unique part of the UK, known for its picturesque beaches and coastlines. Throughout the event attendees will be visiting lots of areas of natural beauty, from the dramatic cliffs and white sand of Lizard Point to the turquoise water and stunning beaches at Kynance Cove. This inclusive event invites everyone to participate, offering a wonderful chance for our supporters who are unable to travel overseas, to be part of the team and make a difference. With three people per tuk tuk, the rally is ideal for those looking for a fun teambuilding trip with a difference! Through the Rabies Rally, you can support our mission to end rabies, while learning and understanding the challenges faced in eliminating rabies, and the plan to eradicate human rabies deaths by 2030.

What does participation involve?

The Rabies Rally is an exhilarating journey that will test skills, camaraderie, and determination as participants navigate through various checkpoints, all in pursuit of becoming the coveted Rabies Rally Champions. Teams will be setting off on an exciting mystery route collecting QR codes to get to the next coordinates around Cornwall. If participants manage to complete the challenge and solve the puzzles, they will earn the finisher's medal, while the winning team will be awarded a fantastic prize.

Competitors can expect to be covering around 50 miles each day in tuk tuks, with challenges including walking to landmarks, problem solving, and puzzles. This event is an excellent opportunity to explore the stunning coastlines and beaches of Cornwall as you head along our carefully planned route. Your entry fee also includes accommodation at an incredible cliff top hotel, great food, Rabies Rally t-shirts, and your company's branding on your team tuk tuk.

Last year, one of these challenges involved 'vaccinating' the other teams' tuk tuks, by removing the ribbon ties on the outside of the other tuk tuks. At the end of the two-days, there was intense competition as the teams had to decipher a code to find the finish at Porthluney Cove and complete the event.

More than just a rally

The fundraising event is an adventure and a challenge, but it is also about raising awareness and crucial funds in our fight against rabies, for both attendees and the wider public. Participation will contribute to our mission of eliminating a preventable disease that claims over 59,000 lives a year. We are working to end this through mass canine vaccination campaigns, surveillance of suspected rabies cases, and community education programmes in the world's worst rabies affected areas, including India, Cambodia, and Malawi. Since we began in 2013, we have educated over 7 million children and vaccinated over 2.1 million dogs worldwide. With your support we can vaccinate more dogs and reach more children and communities with life-saving information on rabies.

Luke Gamble, the CEO of WVS explains the purpose of this event: "Rabies kills a child at least every nine minutes around the world and is a horrifying disease. Because it's transmitted through dog bites, it's also the reason so many dogs are brutally culled and poisoned in countries where rabies is endemic. Our projects show that rabies can be eliminated by largescale vaccination campaigns - protecting both children and dogs in some of the poorest countries in the world."

"Events like these enable everyone to get involved with supporting the charity and raise huge awareness about what we're trying to do."
